Christmas In A Railroad Town
Friday, December 11th
6:00 - 9:00 pm
This Friday evening from 6-9pm bring the family and enjoy a very Merry Christmas in Downtown Opelika at the 15th Annual Christmas In A Railroad Town. Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive at 6pm and take their place at their ‘home-away-from-home’ for the evening at the corner of 8th Street and Railroad Avenue. The children will then have an opportunity to have their picture made and enjoy a visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, board the Rockytop Railroad, pony rides, inflatables, visit the Children’s Village where they will make reindeer food, write their letters to Santa and then place them in Santa’s mailbox, balloons, roast marshmallows, a cookie walk, make Christmas masks and then visit different shops for their Christmas charms. After collecting all your charms, enter your name into a drawing for a gift basket from the downtown shops. Screenprint a Christmas In A Railroad Town t-shirt, donate canned goods benefiting the Community Market at the Opelika Observer’s office and so much more. It’s not too late to create a gingerbread house and enter it in the Gingerbread House Contest. While downtown we invite you to do a little Christmas shopping and have dinner with family and friends. Complete your evening with a wagon or trolley ride through the Victorian Front Porch Tour. Narrated trolley rides are $5 and leave from the Museum of East Alabama. Open air wagon rides are $1 and leave from the corner of 8th Street and Railroad Avenue. The Opelika Post Office, located inside the Museum of East Alabama for the evening, will be on hand stamping your Christmas cards with a special Christmas In A Railroad Town stamp. Providing piano and blues guitar entertainment at the Museum will be Dustin Scoggins of Auburn. A courtesy shuttle will be provided throughout the downtown area.
Entertainment for the evening will be:
6:15-6:45 Make Your Move Performing Arts
7:00-7:30 The young and young at heart will be invited to come up on stage and sing Christmas carols with Doug Long and Friends
7:45-8:15 The Yahooters
8:30-9:00 Make Your Move comedy Improv group
