Bill Robert's Façade Enhancement Grant Program
The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program of the City of Opelika primarily funds this program. Property owners and tenants can apply for a 50% match for a façade enhancement up to $7,000.00 per property. Approval must be received by the City Historical Commission and the Opelika Main Street Design Committee prior to commencement.

10% Tax Credit
Administered by the National Park Service, the 10% tax credit applies to the rehabilitation of non-historic buildings built before 1936, which are used for non-residential, income producing purposes.

20% Tax Credit
Preservation tax incentives are a credit that can be taken on your federal income tax amounting to 20% of the cost of the work to renovate historic buildings. www.nps.gov (Choose "Links to Past" and then "Grants & Assistance")

The Federal Historic Preservation Tax Incentives program includes a 20% income tax credit for the rehabilitation of historic, income-producing buildings

25% Tax Credit
The 2017 Alabama Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit is a 25% refundable tax credit available for private homeowners and owners of commercial properties who substantially rehabilitate historic properties that are listed in or eligible for the National Register of Historic Places and are 60 years old or older. The tax credit provides jobs, increases the tax base, and revitalizes existing buildings and infrastructure, while preserving and rehabilitating Alabama's historic properties.

50% Disabled Access Tax Credit
A tax credit for eligible small businesses that incur expenses to provide access to persons with disabilities. The expenses must be to enable the small business to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. www.irs.gov (Form 8826-IRS)

Property Tax Reductions for Income
Producing Historic Buildings: The Wallace Property Relief Constitutional Amendment allows commercial, rental or industrial property to be assessed at the residential rate if the property is deemed historical. This equals a 50% property tax reduction.

The page itself includes a beautiful storefront photo, the address and contact details for the business, the owner's headshot and brief bio, a list of the working hours, and a sample of services or products that your business provides.

LUNCH AND LEARN

As part of our Economic Vitality mission, Main Street is committed to providing training and professional development opportunities for downtown businesses. We host 4 quarterly Lunch and Learn programs featuring experts on different topics facing downtown businesses. Meetings (and lunch) are free for downtown members.

MONTHLY MERCHANT MEETINGS

We know that connections and networking are important, so Opelika Main Street hosts11 merchant meetings each year for downtown businesses and managers. These meetings allow Main Street staff to provide updates on things going on in the district along with getting feedback on potential challenges or issues.

SIGNATURE DOWNTOWN EVENTS

Opelika Main Street hosts several large downtown events, drawing thousands annually into the district. Christmas In A Railroad Town, Opelika Main Street On Tap, On the Tracks andTouch A Truck are just some of the events Main Street hosts.

DESIGN ASSISTANCE

As part of our Four Point Approach, Opelika Main Street staff is trained to help provide comprehensive design assistance to both new and existing downtown businesses. Contact theMain Street office for more details.

MARKETING ASSISTANCE

With one of the largest social media followings in the area, Opelika Main Street is able to help downtown members with marketing on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Opelika MainStreet also maintains year round digital billboard advertising in the Auburn-Opelika area to help promote major downtown events and initiatives.

HELPFUL SUPPLIES

Opelika Main Street has many different supplies available to borrow on a first come, first service basis to downtown members. Chairs, tables and a speaker system are just some of the options available. Contact Opelika Main Street for more information about rules and procedures.
