Once a sleepy little railroad town on the way to warm Southern climes, Opelika has swelled into a vibrant and energetic downtown community. Downtown Opelika now offers two breweries and one distillery along with a host of restaurants to keep visitors well fed and hydrated. And if the mood strikes you, there are plenty of surprises to be found. From one-of-a-kind items by local makers, to artist spaces and fashion items, Opelika is no longer on the way to somewhere, but a place to go to. We invite you to come see for yourself.
The development of a Main Street program for Opelika has enabled Opelika to become more confident in marketing its downtown. The day-to-day operations are handled by a full-time director with guidance and input from a twelve-member Board of Directors. Opelika Main Street provides many services including business recruitment, financial incentive programs, and a coordinated promotion program.
